Happy Fifth Birthday to the Council of Pediatric Subspecialties

Although many different subspecialties exist in our field of pediatrics, there has been a unified opinion amongst these subspecialties that they unite to establish some common goals in terms of recruitment processes, work hour requirements for fellowship training, and even workforce analyses. The Council of Pediatric Subspecialties (CoPS) was organized in 2006 and has been essential in helping to ensure the future of all pediatric subspecialties. This week, we share a special article by Mink et al. (doi: 10.1542/peds.2011-2979) on the accomplishments of CoPS during its first five years — and what an impressive five years it has been. If you want to be reassured about the future of subspecialties, you will want to read about them in this article and in doing so recognize that the future of pediatric subspecialties is safe in the hands of the CoPs.
